Sandia Area Federal Credit Union will expand to six locations in the Albuquerque metro area with the planned opening of a new, 5,000-square-foot branch at 11301 Montgomery NE, across from Eldorado High School, in October.
The branch is being built on a pad site fronting on Montgomery, east of Juan Tabo, in the new Sandia Square shopping center, according to a news release.
A second pad site fronting on Montgomery will be occupied by a Starbucks.
Founded in 1956, Sandia Area FCU is the state’s fifth-largest credit union serving 68,000 members in Bernalillo, Cibola, Torrance and Valencia counties as well as Rio Rancho and Kirtland Air Force Base.
The new branch is a $1.2 million construction project, according to the city building permit. It will offer investment services, mortgage, commercial and consumer loans. In addition, it will have drive-through and ATM service.
Sandia Square is an infill retail project at the intersection of Montgomery and Cairo NE.
A 13,000-square-foot retail building, planned toward the rear of the property behind the credit union and Starbucks, is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2016. The shop and restaurant space is being marketed for lease by Lisa Allen-Urrea of Sedberry & Associates Commercial Real Estate Services.
